My hometown

My hometown is Weeraketiya. It is a very historical place located in Hambantota district. Its name means the gathering place of heroes. That is, the place where King Dutugemunu organized the army from the southern province is named thus. During the colonial period, St. Joseph's Plantation, which operated in the Weerakatiya area, produced tomatoes and coconuts. In 1969, the Germans funded the installation of 50 kilowatt medium wave transmitters in the Weerakatiya area. It was installed by the first quarter of 1970.Another special feature of Weerakatiya town is that
Weerakatiya pedestrian crossing is the only pedestrian crossing in Sri Lanka.

Talking about places in the city, it is a small town in Hambantota District, Southern Province, Southern Sri Lanka, about 18 kilometers north of Tangalle. The town belongs to the Weerakatiya Divisional Secretariat Division. The city is located around Udakirivila lake. Kulunu Seagala Temple is located near its western bank. The town has a National Youth Corps Training Centre, south of the lake the Weerakatia Hospital, the Singapore Friendship College and Teacher Training Center and the Weerakatiya Rajapakse Madhya Maha Vidyalaya.

I am fortunate to live in this city with beautiful surroundings
